Calumet Armature & Electric was founded in 1956 and is located in Riverdale, Illinois, a suburb south of Chicago.
The Company’s business model today is similar to the original business model: repair and remanufacturing of industrial electrical motors. After being located in Chicago, the Company moved to its present location in Riverdale, Illinois in 1971.
Today Calumet Armature & Electric is engaged in the manufacture and remanufacture of large AC and DC electric motors for industrial and transit applications. The industrial applications business includes large crane motors and factory machine motors (e.g., steel mills, rolling mills, etc.). The transit business manufacturers and rebuilds traction motors/armatures for the mass transit market throughout major metropolitan cities in the United States.
Calumet Armature manufactures and rebuilds traction motors/armatures for major mass transit authorities and industrial applications; these services include, but are not limited to, the design, rebuild, and remanufacture of electrical apparatus in train engines, large crane motors, factory machine motors, and the like. The Company’s strength is its capabilities repair/rebuild traction motors to OEM specifications so it is equivalent to acquiring a new motor directly from the OEM. The Company also manufacturers completely new armatures that replace many OEM equipment, particularly in mass transit applications. Being electrical-mechanical in nature, Calumet Armature’s expertise is specialized; few mechanics are trained in this discipline, generating higher demand for their services. The Company makes repairs both in-house and on-site, depending on customer needs.
A Calumet Armature mechanic completes a thorough, four-year apprenticeship. The Company’s personnel are trained for the specific work performed. There exists a high standard and expectation for technical superiority through continued training and awareness of advancements in the field.
